Description
Maria Anna Doukakou was born in Athens in 2001. She is a final student in the Department of Architectural Engineering at the University of Patras and lives in Patras.
She is a self-taught artist who came into contact with painting from a very young age through many different mediums. She had a particular inclination towards handicrafts and models, but painting on canvases, walls and sketches won her over. Her interest first appears in the realistic capture of landscapes, as well as images from space with strong color contrasts. She has a great love for sketching and drawing comic book characters. She explores the boundaries of the real world and the imaginary as she also expands into abstract compositions.
She has been influenced by her favorite artists Vincent van Gogh, Salvador Dali and Maurits Cornelis Escher, making their works into puzzles from the age of 4. She tries through her works to convey a deeper meaning of how she perceives the world, to express her feelings in a metaphorical way but also to leave hidden messages behind what is seen.
In 2018, she excelled in the talent exams of the School of Fine Arts, but chose to study at the School of Architectural Engineering. During her school years, she participated in pan-Hellenic and a global painting competitions in which she was distinguished with the 1st Prize of the “High School Color Composition Competition, A.L.O.TE., Speech and Art Competitions of Arsakeia – Tositsia Schools” and was distinguished among 6,800 entries from 65 countries of the world with her work being among the 670 works that stood out and that the Finnish center awarded diplomas for the competition “Hyvinkää 100, Yhdessä TOGETHER International Art Exhibition for Children and Young People”. She has participated in many group exhibitions (Greece, Finland) exhibiting her works, she has undertaken the graphic editing of various events, CDs and posters and is currently exhibiting her works in the group exhibition “Energy Athens 2024” at “The European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies” in collaboration with “The Chicago Athenaeum International Museum” in Plaka.
