Description
“The Spartan Chair”
The “Spartan Chair” is an original design by architect Konstantinos Stathopoulos, inspired by the ancient Corinthian helmet used by the Spartans. The helmet is characterized by a dynamic
balance between robustness and lightness, and the chair follows the same philosophy, combining a monolithic structure with refined geometric incisions. The chair’s structure is solid, with its base acting as a pedestal that firmly anchors it to the ground, exuding a distinctly Doric character. The seat is formed by two dynamic curves with pronounced edges, while a recess between them breaks the solid mass. This architectural gesture references the slit of the Corinthian helmet, which not only serves a functional purpose but also adds visual lightness to the composition as a distinctive aesthetic feature.
Though minimal in concept, the construction balances strength with a sense of refinement, reminiscent of the power and grace of ancient forged helmets. The materials may vary, yet what makes the chair truly unique is its geometric purity and the harmony of its elements.
