Loukas Loukidis was born in Lesbos in 1963. He studied business administration at the University of Piraeus and sculpture at the Athens School of Fine Arts with professor Theodoros Papagiannis. He obtained a master’s degree in “Design – Space – Culture” from the Department of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens. Since 1998 he holds a teaching position at the Department of Sculpture at ASFA.
His work is characterized by the variety in the use of materials as well as in the topics he adresses. Conceptualised well as surreal elements are incorporated in a rather classical approach of the form. His 2018 solo exhibition “Constructions of Survival” was influenced by the refugee issue. A significant part of his work called “Morphological waste” (MoWa) concerns the theoretical as well as the sculptural approach to small fragments of waste material. He has held six solo exhibitions and participated in a number of group exhibitions and workshops. He has placed several works in the public space.
