Yassonas Megoulas (aka Cacao Rocks), son of the sculptor George Megoulas, was born in Athens in 1985. He’s been active in the street art scene since 1999.
Megoulas studied French Literature at “National and Kapodistrian University of Athens” and the “Université d’ Angers” in France; he afterwards studied at the “Focus School of Photography” on a scholarship won from the video art competition “Shoot It” (2011).
His work has been exhibited in a number of foundations, museums, and galleries around the world: Benaki Museum, Onassis Cultural Center, Michael Cacoyiannis Foundation, Bouzianis Museum, Zoumboulaki Gallery, Salomon Arts Gallery NY, AG18 Gallery (Vienna) among others. His art and activity have been covered by the international press, notably: the New York Times, National Geographic, BBC, and the Guardian. Yasson Megoulas has been invited by universities and organizations, in both Greece and the USA to give lectures and lead workshops (University of Michigan, TedX, the Onassis Foundation, New School, Deree University, WETRANSFER). His artistic range is wide, such as painting, sculpture, installations, video art and performance. He has also created artwork and branding for international brands, such as: New Balance, NIKE, DUO, Remy Cointreau, Hyundai Motor Company, Aman Zoe. In 2017 he represented Greece at the Mediterranean 18 Young Artists Biennale. In 2018 he was honored with the “Artworks” award from Stavros Niarchos Foundation. In 2021 he was invited to show his work in Monaco by the
UPAW. He showed a big body of his work dedicated to the War of Greek Independence -1821, which is part of the Antony E. Comninos Foundation. His latest solo exhibition hosted at the Municipal Gallery of Central Corfu was made in the context of Corfu International Festival 2023 and it was his 6th solo show. Since 2009 he has participated in over 50 group exhibitions and festivals, while since 2012 his work has been included in 7 books.
