Description
SOLAR SAILOR
Solar Sailor is a work inspired by the technology of solar sails and space exploration. Its form evokes a mechanism that interacts with light and movement, creating a continuous interplay between concealment and revelation.
Solar sails harness the pressure of solar radiation to propel spacecraft—a technology that influences the trajectory of every object in space. From the first interplanetary missions of the 1960s to the present day, the effect of solar pressure has been factored into orbital calculations, as it can shift a spacecraft’s course by thousands of kilometers.
The dynamic structure of Solar Sailor allows for flexible spatial configurations, functioning as a visual filter that alternately separates and unifies its surroundings. Depending on the viewing angle and lighting, it transforms: its reflections create a sense of transparency while simultaneously defining a clear boundary.
Additionally, its geometry gives the impression of floating, reinforcing the work’s connection to the concepts of lightness and motion.
Solar Sailor alludes to the use of light as a medium of movement and transformation, much like solar sails in space technology. Through its interaction with the environment and the observer, it is in a constant state of change, shaping an experience that never remains static but dynamically evolves in space and time.
